The holidays may be over, but occasions to wrap thoughtful treasures for others still abound throughout the year. I’m loving these designs from Norman’s Printery, a little Easy shop out of Northern New Jersey run by designer/maker/printer Cliff Cordes. It’s awesome that the assorted collections layer so nicely together – making for a fun, multiple gift assortment. (As always, click to shop!)
I’m in a bit of a pickle. This is due to the fact that I got a jump on holiday shopping, and proudly began the wrapping process a couple weeks ago, getting more than halfway through before running out of wrapping paper. Which did not impact my continued shopping – that’s been going full steam ahead; without a list and apparently with very little regard to what I might have already purchased. Because, of course, I can’t remember what’s in all those lovely packages. So now that I’ve procured more paper (and more gifts), I’m mostly just staring at the whole mess in hopes of an epiphanal moment. Note to self: wrap everything at the same time. Make a list. And buy plenty of gift wrap. (As always, click to shop!)
Prettifying thoughtful little treasures is one of the great pleasures of gift giving. I always start the holiday season thinking I’m gunna get all DIY, and make my own gift wrap using kraft paper, potatoes, ink and a generous dose of creativity. And then reality sets in. Good thing there are so many amazing options out on the open market…
In a perfect world, you’ve already got all your holiday shopping complete, and everything is all packaged up with a bow on top. However, if you’re like me, it’s just dawned on you that if you’re interested in concealing gifts in something other than last weekend’s newspaper, it’s time to procure some sweet wrapping paper! Here are a few of my favorites this year. (As always, click to shop!)
Hopefully, you’ve got the bulk of your holiday shopping behind you and are moving into phase 2: the official gift beautification process. Through which – if done correctly, can lift even the most mundane of presents (did my hubby really ask Santa for deodorant?) to the sublime. Here are a few lovely contenders to get you started…
It’s coming. Next week is the official start of the Holiday scene. (A fact obviously lost on the big box retailers who’ve been milking it since before Halloween. Bleh.) Over the next month or so, many of us will be schlepping from soiree to soiree, bottle of wine in hand. And yes, I suppose a person could just hand the unadorned vino to one’s host – but where’s the fun in that? When great packaging comes in to play, it adds a burst of festivity, don’t you think? Here are a few of this season’s finest wine gift bags… (As always, click to shop!)
Jean Orlebeke, an Oakland, CA-based designer, founded eieio studio with the idea that “in no uncertain terms, you are the paper you wrap with”. Amen to that. So, if you’re progressive, quirky and unique, her line is the perfect means of self-expression. While you can’t buy direct from their site – yet (although I understand that’s coming) – they do have a store finder function for those of you lucky enough to be in markets they’ve conquered.
In May, at the New York Stationery Show, I became very enamoured of an awesome little paper company called Smock. Everything about them seems so authentic and fresh; their branding, design style, and even philosophies (“We’re trying to make the world better right now”). My favorite part of their line has to be the double sided wrapping paper, printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Yummy.
