Today’s Track – Move You, Anya Marina

My penchant for buying tony hotel music compilations has introduced me to a lot of tracks I otherwise may not have discovered. This bouncy number was featured on Morgan Hotel Group’s CD #4, a disk I couldn’t resist procuring while staying at St. Martin’s Lane in London’s Covent Garden. Move You by Anya Marina from the album Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase 2, 2009.

All Dolled Up

Two Paperdolls Letterpress and Design House is a creative studio in suburban Philadelphia that provides custom design and printing, as well as publishes their own line of whimsical letterpress stationery and prints. I adore the variety in their products, which includes modern patterns, hand-drawn lettering, cute illustrations and elegant typography.

For the Ceramics Type

Paulova Ceramics are handmade in San Francisco by Paula Lopez-Otero, a graphic designer and photographer who also knows her way around a lovely piece of pottery. I’m impressed with her restraint – simple pops of color, understated typography – and subtle juxtaposition of gloss and matte surfaces. (As always, click to shop!)

Nothing Beets a Good Recipe

As many of you who have been ready for a while are no doubt aware, I am not fond of using my kitchen. Cooking, in general, is just not my bag. I share that with you to emphasize how profoundly inspiring today’s video is to me… It totally romanticizes the art of baking, to the point where I’m inclined to give it a go. If only I could have a complete cook book made up of these beautifully made little films – as I suppose one cannot live on beet cake alone… Do let me know if you actually try out the recipe!

Today’s Track – What’s Your Version?, Groove Armada

It’s gray outside. You know, that kind of gray that makes one yearn to nestle under a cosy throw with a cup of tea, a good book and a spot of soothing Euro lounge. I, for one, intend to submit to this temptation. What’s Your Version? by Groove Armada from the album Soundboy Rock, 2008.

Give Me Liberty

Liberty of London is one of the most iconic sources of “modernized traditional” textile design. The Spring Summer 2012 Liberty Art Fabrics collection was inspired by archives, antiques and costume. The in-house textile design team and their collaborators created mood boards influenced in part by a stay at Glencot House in Somerset – with it’s glorious gardens and afternoon – as well as visits to Witworth Gallery in Manchester and perusal of Liberty’s own archives. The resulting collection is highly eclectic, vibrant and steeped in English history. Here are a few of my favorites from their new line. (All fabric £21.00 per meter; click image to shop)

Seeing Green

Have you noticed that much of the St. Patrick’s Day themed imagery is, well, tacky, beer-related junk? How ’bout something soft. Sweet. Simple. Yes, it’s a slow, uneventful video. But I think there’s a tiny touch of magic in it, of which St. Patrick would approve. Enjoy the holiday weekend, everyone! Sláinte!

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
